Paddlers are welcome to join an epic adventure in September. The Paddle Antrim Festival celebrates the waterways and local communities of Northern Michigan Sept. 13-14. The festival includes community events and a non-competitive two-day paddling event from Ellsworth to Elk Rapids on the Chain of Lakes Water Trail.
This choose-your-own-adventure provides the opportunity for you to paddle one or both days and decide how far to travel. There are exits strategically placed along the route so you can go anywhere from 7 to 42 miles on kayaks, canoes, paddle boards and surf skis.

Registration

The festival is $125 for one-day paddlers and $150 for two-day paddlers. Registration closes at 11:59 p.m. Sept. 2.
Registration includes:
  • Two days of paddling the scenic water trail
  • Three community events including a kickoff party, block party and final bash
  • Shuttle service
  • Support along the route
  • Paid security to watch boats overnight
  • Restrooms and water at each checkpoint
Paddlers have the option of purchasing breakfasts and lunches during registration. Lodging is not provided as a part of the festival. Plan and book accommodation in advance. Check here for nearby places to stay. Participants must wear a life jacket, practice safety procedures and follow all rules and regulations during the event.

Chain of Lakes

The Chain of Lakes Water Trail is a paddler’s paradise. This inland water trail is a flatwater system made up of 12 lakes and interconnected rivers, connecting people to the natural environment and vibrant communities. You may see a variety of wildlife as you paddle across the stunning blue waters.
Paddle Antrim is committed to maintaining and improving the water trail to provide a quality experience on the water for all paddlers. They prioritize trail and access site improvements including barrier free access sites, improved restroom facilities and places to clean watercrafts to discourage the spread of invasive species.

Community Events

There are three events included in the festival where paddlers can rest, chat and enjoy good food and company:
  1. Kick-off party: Start the Paddle Antrim Festival off right at River Park in Ellsworth from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 12. This event is open to paddlers and the entire community. The Village of Ellsworth and the East Jordan Chamber of Commerce are bringing live music and a local food truck.
  2. Block party: After paddling, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 13, paddlers are invited to Short’s Bellaire Beer Garden. Paddlers will enjoy one complimentary beverage and snacks.
  3. Final bash: Celebrate the end of the festival with Short’s Brewing at their Pull Barn in Elk Rapids for the Paddle Antrim Festival Final Bash from 3p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 14. After two days of paddling, participants, families and friends will come together for food from Osorio Tacos y Salsa, beverages, fun outdoor games and live music.
