The Latest Trend for Keeping Employees Happy and Healthy
| 2 min read
Meet the fuel bar.
It’s the newest way to treat employees well and is a relatively simple concept: Keep the office kitchen stocked with healthy snacks and beverages your employees can help themselves to whenever they want.
While it’s obvious that a loaded kitchen helps employees avoid hunger pains during a long day in the office, the benefits are more than just physical. In a survey done by Staples Advantage, 73 percent of office workers said a well-stocked kitchen would make them happier at work while 57 percent indicated that it would make them more productive. And because 72 percent of people view the office kitchen as more than a place to just grab coffee, a fuel bar can also serve as a place for quick, casual meetings while employees take a break to reenergize.
Food brings people together, and for workplaces where creativity and collaboration are essential, having the kitchen as the heart of the office is a no-brainer. So how do you create a place where employees can gather, socialize and replenish themselves? It’s more than just buying chocolate bars in bulk, because many employees prefer healthy snacks over junk food like chips and candy. Here is a list of some great healthy snacks to get your office fuel bar started:
- Granola bars and protein bars
- Trail mix or mixed nuts
- Dried fruit
- Yogurt
- Instant oatmeal
- Cut-up veggies and hummus
- Fresh fruit like bananas and pears
- Hard-boiled eggs
- Popcorn
- String cheese
- Crackers and pretzels
- Sparkling water
While a fuel bar is great, it won’t instantly turn everyone into a healthy eater from nine to five. For other tips on eating well at work, check out these blogs:
