Shanthi Appelö is a registered dietitian and health and wellness spokesperson for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan based in Detroit. Passionate about the science of nutrition and behavior, Shanthi has experience working in clinical nutrition, public health and teaching in the university setting. She earned her Master of Science in Public Health Nutrition from the University of Tennessee and has a research background in maternal and child health nutrition and public health, as well as a Certificate of Training in Obesity Interventions from the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Crispy Sumac Baked Dry Rub Wings

Serving Amount
Ingredients
2 Tbsp. brown sugar
4 tsp. sumac
2 tsp. granulated onion
2 tsp. granulated garlic
1 tsp. paprika
1 tsp. dried thyme
Salt and pepper to taste
2 Tbsp. oil, such as olive oil or vegetable oil
2 pounds chicken wings, split
1 lemon, wedged for serving
2 Tbsp. fresh flat-leaf parsley, chopped for serving
Instructions
Step 1
Preheat oven to 400 F degrees. Line a large baking sheet with foil and top with an oven safe cooling rack sprayed with non-stick cooking spray and set aside.
Step 2
Add brown sugar, sumac, onion, garlic, paprika, thyme salt and pepper to a bowl and combine well.
Step 3
Toss the chicken wings with the oil and seasonings until well-coated.
Step 4
Add chicken wings to prepared baking sheet and bake for 45 minutes.
Step 5
Garnish the wings with chopped parsley and serve with lemon wedges and dipping sauce, such as ranch or lemon tahini sauce.
