#MIKidsCan Turkey Day VIP: Conner Smith

Connor Smith, #MIKidsCan VIP Turkey Day Sweepstakes Winner
Instead of tuning in to watch America’s Thanksgiving Parade floats make their way down Woodward Avenue this Thanksgiving, 10-year-old Conner Smith will get to ride on one.
The Commerce Township resident will also deliver the commemorative game ball to Ford Field, participate in the pre-game “fan tunnel”, and enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving feast with family members while watching the Detroit Lions take on the Philadelphia Eagles.
His passion for playing sports and enjoying the outdoors led his mom to enter him in the #MIKidsCan Turkey Day VIP Sweepstakes, sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and the Detroit Lions. Conner was randomly selected from more than 1,300 entries.
The Healthier Michigan team had a chance to catch up with Conner before the big day in the latest #MIKidsCan spotlight:
- What do you do to stay active? I play baseball, football, basketball. During the summer I go to our beach a lot and swim with my friends.
- Do you play any sports or participate in any extracurricular activities? I play spring baseball for Commerce, winter baseball at Total Sports in Wixom, and flag football for Michigan Youth Flag Football in the fall.
- What advice do you have for other kids to encourage them to get active for 60 minutes every day? When you get home from school, think of a sport you’d like to play and do it.
If you’re tuning in to America’s Thanksgiving Parade presented by Art Van this year, be sure to keep an eye out for Conner on board the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan float.
