How many calories are you really burning?
| 1 min read
When you exercise on a piece of cardio equipment at the gym, you can instantly see how many calories you’re burning. (Although, a warning, those numbers are rarely spot-on.) But for those of us who like to take advantage of the winter and be active outdoors, it’s a little harder to guess the calories you burn. So let us help you! Use the following as a rough guide—we calculated the calories with the help of Health Discovery for a 150-pound woman doing each activity for an hour. The more you weigh, the more calories you’ll be burning (and vice versa).
Cross-country skiing: 576
Ice skating: 504
Downhill skiing and snowboarding: 432
Hiking: 432
Snowshoeing: 576
Shoveling snow: 432
