Have you ever thought about competing in a triathlon?
Triathlons are multi-sport events that include three sequential endurance events:
  • Swimming
  • Biking
  • Running
There are many variations of the sport along with different distance options.

Put Your Heart Into It

If you decide to participate in a triathlon, you will need to commit to a training regimen, although you don’t have to be a full-blown athlete to compete. Training requires adjustments to your diet because you are challenging your body; therefore, fueling it properly will help you be more efficient. You will also need to purchase or borrow special gear in order to successfully compete.
Don’t feel overwhelmed. This is where FAST can come to be a great help.

Go FAST

Now is your chance to get expert advice and tips from the Ford Athletic Swimming & Triathlons (FAST) group. They are hosting a Triathlon 101 clinic on Wednesday, May 11th at 6:30pm. The cost is $12 for Novi residents and $15 for non-residents. Registration for the May 11 event can be found here.
People who sign up for this clinic hosted by FAST will see demonstrations led by FAST experts on the following: nutrition, equipment and transition set up, and training tips. A 12-week training guide will also be provided to help you train for the 9th annual Island Lake of Novi Triathlon which consists of ½ mile swim, 12 mile bike and 3 mile run. This local triathlon is deemed best for beginners to compete in.
Since not everyone may have a pool, FAST also provides local open swimming opportunities to assist with training for this leg of the triathlon. They also provide information on other upcoming local opportunities for bike races, triathlons and competitive races as well as workouts to go along with these events.

For Just About Anyone

Triathlons can be for anyone who is in shape and looking for a challenge, those who want to get into shape and a strict regime, and those who are just looking for something new to try. If you know how to run, ride a bike, and swim, I encourage you to give this a try.Competing in a triathlon is on my to-do list.
