Dive In at the Michigan Sea Life Aquarium {Video}

Believe it or not, it is possible to enjoy some tropical waters here in Michigan in February. Sort of.
For those with a keen interest in the fascinating creatures that live in our planet’s oceans, lakes and rivers, it can be tough to explore in the middle of a Michigan winter. Fortunately for us, the Michigan Sea Life Aquarium at Great Lakes Crossing Outlets in Auburn Hills provides ample opportunity for aquatic enthusiasts of any stripe to immerse themselves in several different water-borne exhibits.
Michigan Sea Life Aquarium’s “Breed. Rescue. Protect.” philosophy, focusing on conservation and education, has been a hit since the doors opened last year. With more than 5,000 creatures in over 120,000 gallons of water, the aquarium’s exhibits cover everything from our local Michigan waterways and wildlife, to the vast expanse of Earth’s oceans.
Visitors will find hundreds of tropical and freshwater fish, sharks, stingrays, sea turtles, octopi, eels and dozens of other varieties of sea life in interactive exhibits like the Touchpool Experience and the Dive Trail. There’s even a play area for the kids.
Recently, the A Healthier Michigan team paid a visit the aquarium to get an up close and behind the scenes look at what goes into operating such a cool attraction. Curator Kelli Cadenas was gracious enough to let us stick our cameras in their giant oceanic tank while the sharks ate. Apparently, cameras smell like squid.
