West Michigan Farm is Home to a Spectacular Lavender Labyrinth
| 2 min read
Tucked away in the shadows of the Silver Lake Dunes hides a must-see attraction that’s drawing spectators from all over the world: Michigan’s lavender labyrinth.
Cherry Point Farm is one of the oldest operating fruit farms in Oceana County, with a history dating back to the late 1860s. Although its roots are planted in crops such as cherries, apples, peaches and more, the farm’s herb garden and lavender labyrinth are the real treasures visitors come to experience.
Located just minutes from the shores of Lake Michigan in Shelby, the labyrinth spans a square plot of land that is 300 feet wide and includes hundreds of Michigan lavender plants.
Although a visit to the herb garden and labyrinth can be a much-needed mental retreat, the idea is not to get lost in the way you would a traditional maze. Instead, visitors are encouraged to explore the winding paths with the help of a map that identifies the herbal, medicinal, ancient and other herbs by name and location. Sage, dill, tarragon, echinacea, thyme and bee balm are just a handful of the fragrant herbs you will encounter as you walk through.
Visitors to the lavender farm can also enjoy delicious food prepared daily including Cherry Point’s famous fish boils. There is also a general store featuring plenty of Michigan-made products, farm-fresh goods, lavender-infused foods, lavender-inspired gifts and much more.
If you do plan to visit the lavender labyrinth at Cherry Point Farm, check their website for the latest updates on the lavender bloom. Michigan lavender typically blooms in late June or July. However, the farm tries to wait until after Labor Day to harvest the plants so as many visitors can enjoy it as possible each year.
