Celebrate the Planet: 2019 Michigan Earth Day Events

With so many events commemorating Earth Day around the state, there’s no need to find a tree to hug (unless that’s your thing).
Check your city or township’s website for local clean-up events and consider taking part in some of the larger scale celebrations happening around Michigan.
Northern Michigan
- Take part in the third RecycleSmart Earth Day event at Civic Center in Traverse City from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 27.
- The Earth Week Plus Expo takes place at Cheboygan High School from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m on Saturday, April 13.
West Michigan
- Visit Blandford Nature Center and explore the great outdoors free of charge on Saturday, April 20 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
- A naturalist walk, eco-friendly craft and earth appreciation stories will take place at Frederik Meijer Gardens’ Children’s Garden from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 27.
- The Kalamazoo Nature Center is hosting a full day of activities including a 5K run, crafts and demonstrations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 20.
- The annual Earth Day Lakeshore Celebration takes place in downtown Grand Haven with a march starting at 12:30 p.m. and Earth Day Fair beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 27.
- The Party for the Planet will be held on Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at John Ball Zoo in Grand Rapids.
Southeast Michigan
- One of the planet’s largest Earth Day celebrations will take place in downtown Rochester April 26-28. The MI Earth Day Fest has plenty of events for all ages, including a full live entertainment line-up and presentations by experts and community leaders.
- The Detroit Zoo will host GreenFest from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 27 with educational activities focused on environmental conservation.
- Ann Arbor’s annual Earth Day Festival will take place on Sunday, April 28 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Leslie Science & Nature Center.
Mid-Michigan
- Lansing’s Potter Park Zoo will throw a Party for the Planet on Sunday, April 28 from noon to 4 p.m.
- An Earth Day Extravaganza will take place at Fenner Nature Center in Lansing on Saturday, April 13.
