Fall is a wonderful time of year, filled with crisp air, beautiful foliage and plenty of festivals across the state of Michigan. Here are five unique fall festivals that are perfect for the whole family to enjoy: 

Michigan State Fair

When: August 29 to September 2
Where: 4600 Grand River Ave., Novi
Details: The Michigan State Fair is a great way to kick-off your fall. A $10 ticket grants you general fair admission. The $42 ultimate admission includes fair admission, unlimited carnival rides and circus performances. The fair also has a farmers' market, agriculture showcases, livestock, a 5K, food and live entertainment.

Posen Potato Festival

When: September 6-8
Where: 10575 Michigan Ave., Posen
Details: Located west of Alpena, the tiny village of Posen celebrates Polish heritage during this fun festival. Open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, the festival will feature a parade, polka bands, arts and crafts, spud run, flea market vendors and Polish cuisine.

Detroit Harvest Fest and Food Truck Rally

When: October 5-6
Where: Dequindre Cut Greenway, Detroit
Details: Featuring more than 50 food trucks, six music stages and fun activities for the kids including free inflatables, trick-or-treating, pumpkins and more. Open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., admission at the gate is $5 for ages 3-64 and free for those under three, active or retired service members and older adults over 65.

Apple Festival in Charlevoix 

When: Oct 11-13
Where: 109 Mason St., Charlevoix
Details: This annual celebration gives you the chance to enjoy freshly harvested apples and other fall products. The festival includes a farmer’s market, food booths, arts and crafts show, balloon art, petting zoo, live music, face painting, apple pie eating contest and other fun children’s activities.

Fennville Goose Festival

When: October 10-13
Where: 125 S. Maple St., Fennville
Details: The Fennville Goose Festival has been an annual tradition in the community since 1982. The festival is a celebration of the winter migration of Canada geese to the area and is held in early October. Today, the Goose Festival in Fennville is a beloved tradition that features a goose parade, live music, history exhibit, student art show, car show, carnival games, cornhole tournament and local food-trucks.
