It can feel a bit overwhelming to decide who to follow on different social media sites. You don’t want your feed to be overrun with things you don’t care about, but you also don’t want to miss out on good information! While we obviously think you should be following us (here’s a link to our pages for Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest!), there are other Michigan-based experts with some really good information too. We narrowed down the field and picked three for each site. Happy following!
Twitter
Michigan Department of Community Health: With more than 6,000 followers and 1,500 tweets, @MIHealth will keep you up-to-date on latest in health and safety news.
U-M Health System: Learn about all things health care, from the latest research findings to new treatments and healthy recipes.
Beaumont Health System: Beaumont was named one of U.S. News & World Report’s ‘Best Hospitals’ for the 19th year in a row. Follow them on Twitter and you’ll quickly understand why they belong on that list.
Pinterest
Henry Ford Health System: From recipes to exercise tips, this Pinterest account nicely reflects the organization’s mission of transforming lives and communities through health and wellness. Our favorite boards? Definitely Henry’s Healthy Recipes, Healthy Home Chef Tips and Get Fit.
MI American Heart Association: This Pinterest account is all about helping Michigan residents reduce their risk for cardiovascular disease. From Heart Healthy Recipes to Physical Activity, you are sure to find a few boards you’ll want to follow.
National Kidney Foundation of Michigan: The mission of this organization is to prevent kidney disease and improve the quality of life for those living with it. Be sure to check out the great recipe boards, like their ones for Kidney-friendly and Diabetic-friendly dishes.
Facebook
Michigan Team Nutrition:We’re all about childhood health and wellness, which may explain why we enjoy this Facebook page so much. Michigan Team Nutrition believes that schools should be a place where students, families, and staff learn healthy habits and have the opportunity to practice them. Check out their Facebook page to learn more about their mission.
MI Healthier Tomorrow: This is a new program of the Michigan Department of Community Health, which encourages Michigan residents to take the pledge to reduce their body weight by 10% for a healthier tomorrow. The best part: More than 28,000 Michigan residents have joined in and taken the pledge this year.
Michigan Fitness Foundation: Their goal is to get Michigan moving by promoting the health benefits of physical activity and creating programs that equip Michigan residents to lead healthy lifestyles. This Facebook page is full of great tips, resources and “food for thought” you won’t want to miss.
